About Eliada

Founded in 1903, Eliada Homes, Inc. is a non-profit agency serving the children and families of Western North Carolina. With little money, Rev. Dr. Lucius Compton founded Eliada to help "the last, the least, and the lost" among us. Originally a refuge for women and children and later maintained as an orphanage, Eliada's services now include Residential and Day Treatment for high risk children and adolescents; Five Star Child Development Center services; Foster Care and Therapeutic Foster Care; STEP Adolescent Afterschool; Therapeutic Recreation, including TASC equestrian and NYPUM minibike programs; and Community Support services. Eliada strives to meet community need in innovative ways, remaining committed to the fulfillment of our mission statement: Helping Children Succeed.

About RISE

The Residential Interns Seeking Excellence (RISE) program is a year-long internship that offers recent college graduates free housing, a living stipend, and the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in many aspects of the human service field. The RISE program is a launching pad for the best and brightest men and women seeking to build careers, expand their horizons, and learn new skills. Benefits include:

  • Resume-building experience in 5 service areas of the human services field
  • Paid housing, free meals, and basic utilities
  • Full employee benefits, including health insurance, life insurance, and paid holidays
  • Hourly wage of $5.15
  • The possibility to transfer to a full-time career at Eliada following RISE service

Selection Criteria

Selection is contingent upon interest and experience with service learning. All positions involve direct care with at-risk children and adolescents, so applicants should be enthusiastic about working with this demographic. The ideal candidate would have:

  • Bachelors' Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Fine Arts, Education, Criminal Justice, or Recreation
  • Previous successful professional and volunteer experiences
  • Coursework or a Minor in a Human Services field, like Psychology or Social Work

Housing

Housing consists of a duplex arrangement; you will share your space with another RISE member. This will include a full kitchen with a full-sized refrigerator, microwave and stove, a living room, and a full bath. Each member will have their own bedroom with twin-sized bed, closet, and nightstand. Each duplex is away from the hustle and bustle of the main campus, with a separate entrance and picnic tables.
