Department of Psychology

Founded in 1891, Barium Springs Home for Children (a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization) provided services to approximately 1,927 children in 2010. This is less than the 2,109 children and families served in 2009; not because less children need help but because we didn't have the funding to serve them. With staff increases and campus expansion, Barium Springs' goal is to expand and grow as the needs of NC children increase. By teaching them, keeping them safe, and above all loving them, we show these hurting children there is promise for a bright future.

Currently, we serve children and families in 41 counties in North Carolina (see map above). We have 12 different office locations. Our headquarters is located in Statesville, NC.

Barium Springs provides an array of services for children and families throughout North Carolina. Our objective is to:

• "Heal the Hurt" for children who are troubled, abused or neglected
• Provide "A Safe Home" through residential homes and foster care
• Encourage "A Healthy Start" through educational and prevention programs

We have a variety of ways to volunteer and help the children and families of NC. It is a rewarding experience and helps out in so many ways! Barium Springs also relies on incredible donations of in-kind goods and services. There are many opportunities to help throughout the year.
