The Anxiety Research Lab conducts research aimed at improving the assessment, prevention, and treatment of anxiety-related problems. Much of the lab's research focuses on identifying risk factors for the development and maintenance of anxiety pathology, and interventions that reduce vulnerability to anxiety-related concerns. The lab is currently conducting a series of studies investigating the anxiolytic effects of physical exercise among individuals at risk for developing anxiety disorders.
The Anxiety Research Lab is directed by Joshua J. Broman-Fulks, Ph.D. and staffed by graduate and undergraduate students from Appalachian State University. Student research assistants are considered "junior colleagues" and expected to contribute to all aspects of the research generated by the lab, including study design, data collection, data analysis, and dissemination of research findings. Students also participate in weekly lab meetings and didactic trainings, and many present research at local, regional, and national conferences. Some dedicated students have even authored or co-authored publications with Dr. Broman-Fulks.
