Two students from the Psychological Science MA Program Present at the Southeastern Psychological Association (SEPA) Conference

Two students from the Psychological Science MA program represented Appalachian State at the Southeastern Psychological Association (SEPA) Conference in Orlando, FL earlier this March.

Dina Dudic presented findings from Skyler Prowten’s thesis (as co-author), "Impact of Body Positive vs Muscular Ideal Images on Men'', which examined the differential impacts of body positive and muscular ideal images on body satisfaction, mood and self-objectification among men. Abigail Branco presented her pilot data study, "Do Stereotypes Free Up Cognitive Resources?", which seeks to verify the claim that stereotypes may provide a cognitive benefit by making processing easier.

Both students had a great time attending the conference, meeting new people, spending time in Orlando, and learning more about psychology! Abigail loved spending time with the community -- seeing old friends' posters, making new friends, and presenting her research to her family, who were able to attend with her. Dina loved the discussions sparked by her presentation and getting insights from knowledgeable individuals on the topic. She cherished the opportunity to present and meet diverse people. Both students were grateful to have each other there and loved the opportunity to travel. They also appreciate funding assistance from the Office of Student Research (OSR travel and research grants), the SAFE fund from the College of Arts and Sciences, and the WiSE Travel Award from the Department of Psychology.
