School psychology faculty and students attended the annual convention of the National Association of School Psychologists in Boston from February 5-18. In addition to making several research presentations, students attended sessions about important issues in school psychology, such as minority overrepresentation in office discipline referrals and ways to mitigate it, preparing schools for bilingual learners, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support in rural school districts, and supporting teachers during virtual learning. Students were also excited to attend the keynote address, which was given by Temple Grandin, prominent author and speaker on both autism and animal behavior.
At the conference, members of Dr. Sandy Gagnon’s research team presented 4 posters of findings from research examining college and high school bullying, social support and coping, and mental health. Natalie Moyer represented Dr. Jamie Yarbrough’s research team and presented two posters on research regarding preservice teachers’ and educators’ knowledge of MTSS and their preparedness for implementation. Dr. Jim Deni’s research team made five presentations about a variety of topics, including gifted students, social-emotional-learning with books, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support and implementation science, assessment of English language learners, and factors associated with job searches.
We congratulate our faculty and students for the strong showing at the NASP conference in Boston!
