Dr. Amy Galloway Wins 2018 Excellence in Community Engagement Award

Congratulations to Dr. Amy Galloway for winning the  2018 Excellence in Community Engagement Award from the College of General Education at Appalachian State!

Dr. Galloway received this award in recognition of her work in the community as well as her commitment to teaching service-learning classes that promote civic engagement. Dr. Galloway served as a board member and then board chair for Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture for a number of years. She has also taught a number of Child & Adolescent Development and Conservation Psychology as service-learning classes. Over the years, 237 of her service-learning students have logged over 5,925 hours of service to local non-profit agencies either supporting children and families or working on sustainability issues. Dr. Galloway is currently involved with AppalFRESH (Appalachian Food Research for Equity, Sustainability, and Health). This is an interdisciplinary collaboration of students, staff, and faculty that includes community service related to sustainable food systems as part of its mission.
